Online Home Buyer Education

A Home Buyer Education certificate of completion, required to qualify for some
down payment assistance programs, is valid for one year from date of completion.

Rehab Ready I & II
Thursdays Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30
6PM - 8PM

During this four (4) part workshop series, learn about the rehab process from rehab professionals. Topics covered include energy efficiency, what to look for during an inspection and how to work with contractors, inspectors and architects.

Please note that this workshop is required for anyone interested in participating in the TIF Purchase Rehab assistance program.

Financial Self Defense and Estate Planning
Wednesday Sept. 15

Listen to information provided by the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) on the importance of Estate Planning with emphasis on how to use the Transfer on Death Instrument (TODI) as part of a Financial Self Defense toolkit.

Also learn about other tools to improve and defend your finances including:
Reducing your housing costs, reviewing insurance policies, ensuring all eligible property tax exemptions are being taken and avoiding 3rd party utility supplier missteps.

Property Management Training
Wednesday Sept. 22

Do you want to be a landlord or already are one? Then this webinar is for you. This workshop presented, by CIC, provides participants with the knowledge to better market, manage, and maintain residential rental property.

Topics covered include screening & marketing, fair housing, the Chicago landlord/tenant ordinance, tenant retention, rent collections and evictions

Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

Please note this workshop is required for TIF Purchase Rehab participants that plan to purchase a 2-4 unit property.

NHS ILRPP Rental Counseling Webinars

Participants will meet with a NHS Chicago HUD certified housing counselor who will provide information regarding landlord and tenant’s rights and responsibilities, counseling on household budgeting, good rental practices and the 2021 Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP). Upon completion of the rental course ILRPP tenant will receive a certificate of completion within 24-48 business hours.

Webinars are available for two sessions; Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and evenings.

Housing University

No matter where you are on your homeownership journey, Housing U has something for you! Our webinar series is designed with you and your family in mind. Housing U is the perfect option to help you unlock the mystery of the home buying process and navigate the road to sustaining your home while maintaining and growing your finances with confidence.
Housing U: Track 1 - Homebuyer’s Education

This 4 - 6 week series led by HUD Certified Housing Counselors will provide potential homebuyers with:

  • Key information needed to start the home- buying journey
  • The ability to navigate the home buying process with confidence
  • An understanding of what to expect as a homeowner.
  • Helpful information on options for mortgage default and steps to avoid foreclosure.
