Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

Our 90-minute foreclosure prevention education workshop provides insight into the foreclosure process, loan modification options, mediation, forbearance, housing counselor assistance, and mortgage assistance grant programs:

Online Home Buyer Education

Complete home buyer education with eHome, an online home buyer education course. Proceed at your own pace in completing 6 modules, which are also available in Spanish. The regular cost of this course is $99, but use the discount code NHSC49 for a significant reduction in price to $50.

Home Buyer Education Webinars

Learn about the home buying process such as the basics of budgeting, improving credit, understanding the closing process and down payment assistance programs.

A Home Buyer Education certificate of completion, required to qualify for some
down payment assistance programs, is valid for one year from date of completion.

Rehab Ready I & II
Saturday Mar. 6 & 13
9AM - 1PM

During this 2 part workshop series learn about the rehab process from rehab professionals. Topics covered include energy efficiency, what to look for during an inspection and how to work with contractors, inspectors and architects.

Please note that this workshop is required for anyone interested in participating in the TIF Purchase Rehab assistance program.

Property Management Training
Wednesday Mar. 10
6PM - 9:30PM

This workshop provides participants with the knowledge to better market, manage, and maintain residential rental property and is led by CIC (Community Investment Corporation)

Topics covered include screening & marketing, fair housing, the Chicago landlord/tenant ordinance, tenant retention, rent collections & evictions

Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

This workshop is required for TIF Purchase Rehab participants that plan to purchase a 2-4 unit property.

Financial Self Defense and Estate Planning
Wednesday Mar. 17

Learn about the importance of Estate Planning with emphasis on how to use the Transfer on Death Instrument (TODI) as part of a Financial Self Defense toolkit. Information presented by Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL).

Also learn about other tools to improve and defend your finances including: Reducing your housing costs, reviewing insurance policies, ensuring all eligible property tax exemptions are being taken and avoiding 3rd party utility supplier missteps.

This 4 - 6 week series led by HUD Certified Housing Counselors will provide potential homebuyers with:

  • Key information needed to start the home- buying journey
  • The ability to navigate the home buying process with confidence
  • An understanding of what to expect as a homeowner.
  • Helpful information on options for mortgage default and steps to avoid foreclosure.

Two Options to complete the 8 hour Homebuyer’s Education workshop
