Property Tax Exemptions & Certificates of Error
Did you know that missing a property tax exemption can increase your property tax bill, escrow payment, and monthly mortgage cost?
In this workshop, representatives from the Cook County Assessor’s Office will explain property tax exemptions and focus specifically on the Certificate of Error process. This option may be available to homeowners who did not receive eligible exemptions on their 2024 second installment property tax bill.
Participants will learn:
• What property tax exemptions are and who may qualify
• Common reasons exemptions may be missing
• What a Certificate of Error is and when it can be used
• How to apply for a Certificate of Error and what documentation may be required
• What to expect after submitting an application
This session is ideal for homeowners who want to better understand their property tax bill and explore options to correct missing exemptions.
