City of Chicago Seal

City of Chicago

Since NHS’ inception, the City of Chicago has been a caring and powerful NHS partner, fighting for strong and stable neighborhoods throughout Chicago. Without this key partnership, NHS would not have had success in revitalizing neighborhoods and helping Chicago homeowners in purchasing and keeping their homes.

The City of Chicago Department of Community Development's mission is to promote and preserve a vibrant economy by encouraging job creation, development of new businesses and affordable housing, and creating and sustaining healthy neighborhoods.

Bruce Gottschall

Bruce Gottschall

As many of you know I could be considered somewhat biased toward NHS because of my role as founding executive director, but who better to affirm the importance of its mission and services! Since my retirement in 2010 I have supported a number of important social justice and environmental improvement efforts. NHS is always at the top of my list.

NHS of Chicago continues to be as important to Chicago neighborhoods and its residents as it was at its founding 45 years ago. Housing and neighborhood conditions have an overwhelming impact on the well-being of families. Through direct housing services and through partnering with others, NHS creates conditions for neighborhood and housing improvement.

NHS, as a champion of homeownership for families, is fulfilling an extremely important role that strengthens neighborhoods and families. NHS has led in this effort even in very difficult times and is to be commended and supported for this.

NHS has sustained and added cooperating and partnering organizations and institutions in its efforts to achieve even more. This ability to keep and enhance existing partners and supporters while adding new ones creates the base to effectively serve more people.

Support for NHS is so important because it not only provides essential homebuyer services but because it effectively combats disinvestment in neighborhoods. NHS demonstrates effective neighborhood investment and housing services which provides valuable examples for private and public sector actors and institutions.

Individual support of NHS is an essential way that helps NHS maintain its important independence to continue to pursue its mission.

Thank you for contributing along with me.
